How to Maintain Your Industrial Chiller in Winter

2024-03-05

In hot days, a lot of factories need to run the chiller for 24 hours everyday, which is very high efficiency. Neglecting your industrial chiller system can lead to breakdowns, increased energy consumption, and high costly repairs. So If you don’t need chillers to cool in winter, you can consider to maintain your industrial chiller to ensure efficient and uninterrupted operations. In this article, we'll talk about some essential tips to help you winterize your chiller system.

Tip One: Clean

1.Turn off the water source of chiller, clean the water inside the chiller components and pipelines, which prevent chiller components from being corroded by water or frost heaving of copper pipes that are too low in temperature after shutdown.

At the same time, the drain nut under the water pump should be unscrewed to drain the remaining water in the water pump to prevent the water system from freezing due to low ambient temperature, causing the evaporator to burst and crack, causing refrigerant leakage or damage to the water pump impeller.

2.Clean the Condenser of the air-cooled chiller and keep it in a clean.

3.Check the water tank in chiller whether is with any impurity, and remove it.

4.Check the using of lubricating oil through data records, and replacing the lubricating oil regularly according to the standards to maintain a good lubrication.

5.Check the refrigerant level in the compressor , If you notice low levels of refrigerant then refill it ,please remember refill the same refrigerant as the chiller and inspect the system for leaks.

6.Cooling water pipes of the chiller must be insulated which not only prevent the serious loss of cooling capacity, but also prevent the dew formed on the outer of the pipes.

Tip Two: Maintenance

1.Keep refrigerant and oil in clean and moisture-free to avoid moisture pollution.Need vacuum to remove moisture after maintenance on any part of the cooling system and before restarting work.

2.The dryer filters in your industrial chiller system keep dust, dirt, and debris from entering the chiller unit. Over time, these filters can become clogged, which can restrict airflow and cause your chiller to work harder than it has to.Therefore, it's importance to inspect and replace the filters regularly to maintain optimal performance. A clean dryer filter will keep your chiller running smoothly.

3.Avoid the chiller compressor from being blocked by liquid refrigerant. Make sure that there is overheating enough and the suitable suction accumulator to avoid charge liquid refrigerant into the compressor. Liquid refrigerant will cause to cut the lifespan of the compressor, and complete damage to the compressor under extreme conditions.

4.Protect the compressor during shutdown for long-term.If non-operational shutdown for a long term, and then the compressor should be vacuumed to low pressure and then filled with nitrogen or oil.

5.As long as the compressor shows obvious change in vibration level, noise, or performance in any time, it should be taking preventive maintenance inspections.

Winterizing your industrial chiller system is vital for maintaining efficient operations and avoiding costly repairs. By following these maintenance tips, you can keep your chiller working efficiently all year round. If you're unsure about any chiller maintenance task, contact your chiller provider  for assistance. With the right maintenance ways, you can be confident that your industrial chiller system will meet your facility's needs .
