How To Choose Scroll Chiller and Screw Chiller

2024-04-16

When it comes to water cooling systems for industrial applications, choosing the right industrial water chiller is difficult for the users. There are two types of chiller according to the compressorsscroll chiller  and  screw chiller, both of which have unique advantages. In this article, we will explore how to choose between these two types of chillers to ensure that you have the perfect cooling system for your needs.

Scroll Chiller

A scroll chiller typically uses a hermetic scroll compressor(such as Panasonic/Danfoss/Copeland brand scroll compressor) to cool the water. It works by compressing refrigerant gas, which causes the temperature to rise. The gas then enters the condenser, where it is cooled and returned to the compressor as a high-pressure liquid. This continuous cycle allows the system to cool the water, which is then circulated through the cooling system.

The cooling capacity for scroll chiller is from 1KW to 200KW (1/2 TR to 50 TR),and scroll chiller  generally built with the water tank and water pump inside, unless the users have buffer tank at their site to connect with the chiller. The quantity of compressor for scroll chiller can be one ,two ,three or four ,which depend on the chiller size.

The advantages of scroll chillers include their compact size, low noise levels, and easy installation. They also require little maintenance, which makes them a popular choice for smaller industrial applications.

Screw Chiller

A Screw chiller uses screw compressors(Hanbell/Bizter brand screw compressor) to cool the water. The compressor draws in refrigerant gas, compresses it, and then moves it to the condenser. The gas is then cooled before re-entering the compressor as a high-pressure liquid.

The cooling capacity for screw chiller is above 80KW (above 30TON),and screw chiller is no built with the water tank and water pump inside, which need the users connect with buffer tank at their site ,and the evaporator just is shell and tube. The quantity of compressor for screw chiller just is one or two .

The advantages of screw chillers include their ability to handle larger cooling loads, high energy efficiency, and longer lifespan. They also provide greater flexibility in terms of temperature control, making them a popular choice for larger industrial applications.

Choosing the Right Industrial Water Chiller

When deciding between a scroll chiller and a screw chiller, there are several factors to consider.

First, consider your cooling needs. If you have a smaller industrial application that needs cooling, a scroll chiller(1KW -200KW cooling capacity) may be the best option due to its compact size and low noise levels. If you have a larger cooling load, a screw chiller(above 80KW cooling capacity) may be a better choice due to its ability to handle larger cooling loads.

Secondly, consider the efficiency of the system. While both scroll chillers and screw chillers are efficient, screw chillers are generally more efficient and have a longer lifespan. This is important to consider if you plan on using the chiller for a long time.

Finally, consider your budget. Scroll chillers are typically more cheaper than screw chillers, but this can vary depending on the specific brand and model.

In a word, choosing between a scroll chiller and a screw chiller depends on your specific needs. If you need a compact, low-noise system for smaller industrial applications, a scroll chiller may be the best option. If you have a larger cooling load and require high energy efficiency, a screw chiller may be the better choice. Consider your specific needs, efficiency requirements, and budget when deciding between these two types of chillers, and always consult with a reputable industrial chiller manufacturer to ensure that you are making the best decision for your needs.
